What is a Madrasah?

A madrasah is a supplementary Islamic school that runs alongside your child's mainstream education. Your child continues at their regular state or independent school during the day and comes to the madrasah for a few hours each week — typically on weekday evenings — to learn Quran, Arabic language, and Islamic studies.

The majority of Muslim families in East London choose madrasah as the backbone of their child's Islamic education. It is not a replacement for mainstream school — it is a powerful complement to it.

What Your Child Will Learn at Taalam

Our curriculum is designed to give your child a strong foundation in Quran, Arabic language, and Islamic studies that stays with them for life.

Quran & Tajweed

From Noorani Qaida to fluent Quran recitation with proper Tajweed rules. Children progress from recognising Arabic letters to reading any page of the Quran with confidence.

Arabic Language

Modern Standard Arabic and Quranic Arabic — reading, writing, vocabulary, and grammar. Children build a living connection to the language of the Quran.

Islamic Studies

Age-appropriate lessons in Aqeedah (beliefs), Seerah (Prophet's life), Fiqh (worship), and Akhlaq (character). Children learn their deen with understanding, not just memorisation.

Dua & Memorisation

Daily duas, morning and evening adhkar, and memorisation of key surahs. Children leave with a toolbox of spiritual practice they use for life.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions from parents.

Where is the madrasah located in East London?

Taalam Learning Centre is at 56 Church Road, Manor Park, London E12 6AF — in the heart of East London. We're a 5-minute walk from Manor Park station (Elizabeth line) and easily reached from Newham, Redbridge, Ilford, East Ham, Forest Gate and Stratford.

What age can my child start at Taalam Learning Centre?

We welcome children from age 4. Our youngest students begin with the Noorani Qaida and basic Islamic studies in a supportive, age-appropriate setting. Contact us to discuss your child's starting point.

Do I need to book a place in advance?

Yes — places are limited per class to maintain small sizes. We recommend contacting us as early as possible, especially at the start of the academic year. That said, we always try to accommodate mid-year enrolments where we can.

What if my child has never studied Arabic before?

No problem at all. We assess every new student before they begin and place them in the right group for their current level — not their age. A child who has never seen Arabic before starts in the same place as everyone else: at the beginning, with a pace and approach suited to them.

Is there a trial class available?

Yes — we offer a free trial class so your child can get a feel for the environment, meet their teacher, and settle in before committing. Contact us to arrange this. There's no obligation following the trial.

Can my child attend if they go to a state school?

Yes. We offer two daily sessions — afternoon (1:00–2:45pm) and evening (5:00–7:00pm) — both designed to complement mainstream school rather than compete with it. The afternoon session runs immediately after the school day ends, making it a natural extension of your child's learning. Most of our students attend local East London state schools.

Do you offer online classes?

At this time, all our classes are held in person at our East London centre. We do not currently offer online classes.
